Barney has worked with masterplans in the UK and US on campus projects that balance student and staff needs with commercial viability. He is experienced with space planning and ideation backed by urban analysis, and presenting masterplan stakeholders with fresh thinking to stimulate discussion – often opening unforeseen areas of opportunity.

Barney was a core team member for an 18-month update to Florida State University’s campus masterplans by Perkins & Will. He has contributed to the plans for numerous US campuses and led the design response to a pedestrian realm study for the College of DuPage in 2020.

Barney received First Class Honours in undergraduate architecture in 2014 and won the Leslie Jones Memorial Prize (RIBA South). His research in Chicago was awarded fieldwork grants from Corpus Christi College and the architecture faculty.
